ACEO original abstract stained glass mosaic blacklight torch Guess Who American Woman Inspired by The Guess Who’s “American Woman”, this original one of a kind ACEO reimagines the Statue of Liberty’s torch as a stained glass style black flame that casts bright neon colors all around. The shape of the torch also draws loose inspiration from the all seeing eye on the back of American $1 bills. It’s a reminder that while America promises many beautiful and enticing things, danger lurks in the shadows and one has to be careful not to become trapped by them. This ACEO is the fifth in my “Wet, Hot, American Sarcasm” collection which features a total of 6 cards inspired by songs people tend to think are patriotic, but aren’t. “American Woman” is a bit of an outlier in this series, because according to Burton Cummings it was never meant to be a political song, it was meant to be about his preference for Canadian women over American women, though he also admits that he made the song up at the spur of the moment, improving the lyrics as he went with no real thought to an overall meaning. Randy Bachman, on the other hand insists that it was always meant to be a protest song. Either way, the listening audience immediately created their own interpretation of the vague lyrics and that interpretation quickly took on a life of its own. This original, one of a kind ACEO was made on acid free, archival quality, cold pressed water color paper with fine art grade acrylic paints and inks that will not fade, crack or peel. Additionally the piece is coated with a high quality professional varnish for added protection. The back of the card serves as a built in certificate of authenticity, featuring the title, artist’s signature, date of completion and naming the artist and song that inspired it. Item comes in a plastic sleeve for storage.
