Captivity explores the tension between beauty and confinement through bold color, intricate pattern, and rhythmic repetition. Created with acrylic markers and black ink on watercolor paper, the composition was inspired by a collection of colorful beads tucked away in a jewelry box. Objects meant to adorn and be admired, yet hidden from view the majority of the time. Their vibrant forms are transformed into a dynamic visual language, suggesting both celebration and restraint. Layered lines and organic shapes create a sense of movement while simultaneously implying enclosure, inviting viewers to reflect on the ways we preserve, protect, or imprison the things we value. Balancing playful color with structured mark-making, Captivity blurs the line between ornament and emotion, encouraging personal interpretations of freedom, memory, and the quiet beauty found within limitations.
