Lucky Charm- Inspired by Credence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son"

Inspired by Credence Clearwater Revival’s “ Fortunate Son”, this original one of a kind ACEO features a green ace of clubs from a deck of playing cards depicted in a stained glass style. This ACEO is the fourth in my “Wet, Hot, American Sarcasm” collection which features a total of 6 cards inspired by songs people tend to think are patriotic, but aren’t. If there’s one song almost guaranteed to end up in any movie about the Vietnam War, it’s CCR’s “Fortunate Son” People think it's a song about soldiers blessed by the divine to ensure their victory over the enemy, but it’s actually the opposite, because if they really were fortunate, they wouldn’t be there at all. It’s the unlucky ones who end up on the front lines facing the cannons. Fogerty’s lyrics are protesting the war, not praising it. There’s a long history of playing cards holding special meanings in times of war, with the Ace of Spades holding particular significance. This ace, however, is just a plain old club, which is sort of like a clover, but one with only three leaves, not four, so no extra luck there, either, just the variegated greens of money tied together by the bright red of the sacrifices made to gain it. The club in the center is watched over by two golden “A”s in opposing corners outlined in the same shade of red. Heavy slanted rain fills the card’s background both as a representation of the driving beat of the music and also of the phrase “when it rains, it pours”. This original, one of a kind ACEO was made on acid free, archival quality, cold pressed water color paper with fine art grade acrylic paints and inks that will not fade, crack or peel. Additionally the piece is coated with a high quality professional varnish for added protection. The back of the card serves as a built in certificate of authenticity, featuring the title, artist’s signature, date of completion and naming the artist and song that inspired it.
