Neisseria meningitidis is a gnarly little dude that doesn't like to be alone. You can see they hang out in pairs because they are diplococcus, diplo meaning pairs, coccus meaning round. These guys hang out in the nasopharynx of 10% of adults and if they break the blood-brain barrier, cause meningitis.
