Hi! 👋 I'm Lindsey! I started watercoloring in 2019 after watching a Let's Make Art tutorial online and thinking, "I could probably do that." Turns out...I'm still at it. Since then, I've learned through online tutorials, books, and a whole lot of practice. I'm completely self-taught, and every painting teaches me something new. Why do I keep coming back to landscapes? Because they're wonderfully forgiving. Feeling moody? Dark mountains. Feeling whimsical? Floofy pink clouds. Feeling overwhelmed after work? Throw some paint on the paper and see what appears. Sometimes I don't even know what I'm painting until halfway through. "Huh...that kind of looks like a river." Guess it's a river now. While landscapes are my favorite, I also love wandering into florals, coastlines, coral reefs, or whatever else decides to show up on the paper that day. What keeps me painting? My day job doesn't offer much of a creative outlet, so watercolor has become my favorite way to unwind. No matter what kind of day I've had, sitting down with paint and paper usually makes things a little better. What am I still figuring out? Being self-taught means every painting is a chance to learn something new. One lesson that comes up a lot? Learning when to stop. It's surprisingly easy to keep fussing with a painting long after it was finished five brushstrokes ago. Naming it afterward? Somehow that's even harder. One of my favorite quotes comes from Pam Beesly in The Office: "There's a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn't that kind of the point?" I love that quote because it's exactly what I'm hoping to capture. Whether it's a quiet mountain, a winding river, a coral reef, or a tiny ACEO, I hope my paintings bring a little beauty and joy to an ordinary day. If you'd like to follow along with new paintings, behind-the-scenes peeks, or just say hello, you can find me on Instagram at @brush.and.brackish.art. I'd love to have you along for the journey!
