Testing the Waters

Testing the Waters is card three of three in my Backyard Snorkel Enthusiasts collection, whose collective complaint is: “We brought the gear. The pool brought disappointment.” This little mouse showed up fully prepared for an aquatic adventure: purple goggles, snorkel, and enough enthusiasm to make a backyard kiddie pool feel like open water. The pool may not offer much in the way of actual snorkeling conditions, but that has done absolutely nothing to dampen the commitment. After taking a very cheerful look around at the accommodations, Testing the Waters has only one note: “I was promised more depth.” I wanted this character to have the kind of optimism that refuses to let inadequate circumstances interfere with a perfectly good plan.
